Methodology
How we rate
Every formula on Baby Formula HQ gets the same treatment: we research the manufacturer's published ingredient and nutrition data, current prices across major retailers, and recurring themes in public parent feedback — then score it on five criteria, each 0 to 5 bottles.
How gently parents report it sits: gas, spit-up, constipation themes in real feedback.
Protein/carb/fat sources, extras like HMOs and probiotics, and what's left out.
Price per ounce versus what you get. Cheap and great beats pricey and great.
How easy it is to find in stores and online when you need it at 11pm.
Clumping, foaming, and how it dissolves — small thing, matters daily.
What our scores are — and aren't
Our scores are editorial judgments about value, ingredients and real-world usability. They are not medical rankings — a 3.5-scoop formula may be the single best choice for your baby, and your pediatrician's guidance always outranks our opinion. All US-sold infant formulas meet the same FDA nutritional requirements; we compare what differs beyond that baseline.
Where the money comes from
We earn affiliate commissions when you buy through our Amazon links. Three things keep that honest: commissions are roughly the same across formulas, so we have no incentive to steer you anywhere; scores are set before links are added; and no brand can pay for placement, a better score, or a softer review. If a formula has problems, we say so on its page. Full details in our disclosures.
Reader reviews
Reviews from parents on this site are real submissions, moderated only for spam and abuse — never edited for opinion, and never written by us. We aggregate themes from outside communities (retailer reviews, parenting forums) separately, and label them as such.
Corrections
Prices and formulations change. If you spot something outdated, email us — we review corrections within days and date-stamp content updates.
